From 1992 through 2000, I photographed several hundred instances of women’s bodies being used as advertising in public places throughout New York City. Bus stop shelters, telephone booths, store windows, buses, billboards and neon signs regularly display ads featuring nearly-naked and seductively posed women. Lurid murals, spanning several stories and placed high up so as to dominate the landscape from far and near, are regularly seen. Buses commonly drive by displaying one or more naked (or nearly naked) women, advertising some product. ....next
