Welcome to the Left Bank Cafe, an on site online project dedicated to the contemplation of place and placelessness. Read the writings of an international group of authors, and submit your own writing on the theme of place and placelessness, to be published in the online cafe. Submissions will be received for 12 months, at the end of which a book, Place & Placelessness, will be published from a selection of the entries, with permission of the authors. This project is launched live from Paris 11-31 May, 1998. We welcome your contribution.

Writings may be submitted either to the online writers' tables or to the philosophers' table, the difference being that submissions to the writers' table should be complete narratives or stories (fiction or non-fiction) by one author, variations on a theme inspired by the notion of place and placelessness, whereas the philosophers' table hosts an ongoing opportunity to read and respond to the direct philosophical questions and musings of others on the subject of place and placelessness.
